 Mt. Kaya which was called the Mt.Fuji of Itoshima, overlooks the pastoral land-scape and beautiful Genkai Sea coast of Itoshima since ancient times. This region, so rich in natural beauty, is where the KyushuUniversity Academic City will be born .The Kyushu University Academic City will be located in this rich natural region.

The Kyushu University Academic city concept has attracted considerable attention in Japan and overseas as a model project for a new type of community development in the 21st century, bringing together industry, academia and government.

Close interactionwith the university bringing together diverse functions from industry, academia and government, a regional science and technology system to promote knowledge exchange and creative activity.

In addition to the Kyushu University Research City Promotion Council promoting the concept both in Japan and overseas, the Organization for Promotion Academic City by Kyushu University that integrated the management of an academic city October 1, 2004, and the system for promotion of the plan was strengthened.
